Youth Entrepreneur: Volunteers Lead Fundraising Preparation During the February 2026 Lunar New Year Celebration

The Pearland Lunar New Year Festival is the largest annual event hosted by our organization. Since its launch in 2023, this year marks our fourth festival. The event serves as a major platform for community engagement and an important opportunity for fundraising.

Preparation for the fundraising sales begins months in advance. Volunteers carefully select Lunar New Year–themed merchandise, conduct market research, and determine appropriate pricing. They also design the layout and visual displays for the sales booths to create an inviting and festive atmosphere.

This year, our featured fundraising items included horse plush toys and panda plush toys, along with traditional items such as decorative fans and paper umbrellas with classical-style paintings.

In addition to the main fundraising booths, several cultural booths also offered items connected to traditional customs. For example, the Feng Shui booth sold lucky bamboo arrangements, while the scent sachet–making booth offered handmade herbal sachets designed for calming and refreshing effects. Our volunteers crafted containers for the lucky bamboo arrangements and designed educational posters introducing the herbs used in the sachets, enhancing both the cultural experience and community learning. Parents also supported these efforts by assisting with the setup of Square payment transactions, helping ensure smooth and efficient sales operations throughout the event.

Through planning, creativity, and teamwork, our youth volunteers demonstrated leadership and entrepreneurial skills while celebrating culture and strengthening community engagement.
