When Zide Liu began volunteering at the Light and Salt Association’s Special Needs Caring Center, he noticed a lack of interior design elements that could enrich the space and provide a more inviting atmosphere for its clients. Recognizing the potential impact of art and decoration on client well-being, Zide proposed adding a mural to brighten the center’s environment and setting up a display board to showcase artwork created by individuals with special needs, celebrating their creativity and accomplishments.

From May to July 2023, Zide Liu led a team of 16 volunteers from the AYLUS Pearland branch who undertook this creative endeavor to support the Light and Salt Association. Their efforts included painting a vibrant mural and adding decorative elements that promoted a message of healthy living. This initiative not only enhanced the visual appeal of the facility but also created a space where the achievements of special needs individuals could be celebrated, fostering a sense of pride and inclusivity.

Under Zide Liu’s leadership, AYLUS Pearland volunteers dedicated their artistic talents to convey themes of healthy living through mural hand drawing, digital art, and a 3D bulletin board blueprint. Through these activities, the volunteers successfully brought life to the Light and Salt Association’s Special Needs Caring Center, enhancing the facility with vibrant visuals and an uplifting message focused on well-being. The following activities were key to the project:

  1. Hand Drawing: The team meticulously planned and executed a series of murals that depicted various aspects of a healthy lifestyle, including physical fitness, mental well-being, and positive relationships. These scenes created an inspiring and supportive atmosphere, encouraging all who visited the center to embrace holistic health.

  2. Digital Art: In addition to hand-drawn murals, the volunteers produced digital artworks that combined vibrant colors and thoughtful compositions. These pieces served as reference guides for mural painting and were shared online to broaden the message’s impact, promoting healthy living well beyond the physical location of the murals.

  3. Bulletin Board 3D Blueprint: Running parallel to the mural design was the installation of bulletin boards. The team created a precise 3D digital blueprint that included exact measurements, specifying where to drill and attach brackets to securely hold the boards. These bulletin boards were installed to display artwork by individuals with special needs, offering them a permanent space to showcase their creative achievements.

Zide Liu and the AYLUS Pearland branch volunteers demonstrated exceptional dedication and artistry throughout these projects, creating visually captivating artworks that highlighted the value of a healthy, balanced lifestyle. Their collaboration with the Light and Salt Association exemplified how community service and artistic expression can make a positive impact, promoting healthier lifestyles and inclusivity.

AYLUS Pearland takes pride in offering volunteers opportunities to serve the community while also exploring and pursuing their passions. Through projects like the mural painting at the Special Needs Caring Center, AYLUS empowers youth to make meaningful contributions that align with their interests, helping them develop both skills and a lifelong commitment to service.
