SMILE 4 Special Needs (#289): Volunteers Lead the LSA SMILE Summer Camp (#145) on Aug. 5th, 2026

On Wednesday Aug. 5th, 2026, volunteers assisted the staff at the 2026 LSA Summer SMILE Camp held at the Special Needs Caring Center, helping provide engaging and meaningful activities for campers with special needs.

The class included an exciting bucket drumming lesson to all participants. Volunteers began by introducing and reviewing the different sounds produced when the drumsticks hit various parts of the bucket, including the center, rim, and sides. Volunteers then guided the students through a variety of patterns and rhythms.  Last volunteers led the group in drumming along to music, creating an energetic and joyful ending for everyone involved.

The campers actively participated in each activity and enjoyed the positive and welcoming atmosphere. These experiences helped strengthen their daily living skills, communication abilities, social interactions, and self-confidence while fostering meaningful friendships and connections with both volunteers and fellow campers. The event also provided volunteers with a rewarding opportunity to serve the special needs community with compassion, patience, and encouragement.

Assistant Instructors (6 hrs): Yushan Qiu, Gloria Zhang, Grace Wu
