SMILE Pearland is a newly developed project under the broader SMILE 4 Special Needs umbrella. It is a youth-led, inclusive program designed to support individuals with special needs and their families through engaging, skill-building activities in a welcoming and supportive environment. The program is part of the Youth SMILE 4 Special Needs initiative, organized by Hummingbird Community Outreach, PROMIS/AYLUS Pearland, and the Light and Salt Association.
The January 17 event began with Circle Time, during which participants shared how they celebrated the New Year, followed by a guided discussion focused on goal setting and planning. Participants then took part in New Year’s Resolution Planning activities that encouraged age-appropriate self-reflection, goal setting, and the development of positive habits.
The second half of the session featured a Mini New Year Carnival with interactive games and body percussion activities. These activities were designed to promote hand-eye coordination, focus, and physical movement, while strengthening cognitive skills, life skills, and gross motor development—all within a fun, inclusive, and supportive environment.
