SMILE 4 Special Needs (#257): Bucket Drumming for All (#37) at GiGi’s Playhouse Sugarland on Jan 2, 2026

We kicked off the new year with an exciting bucket drumming class at GiGi’s Playhouse Sugar Land, a Down Syndrome Achievement Center. The class included students of mixed experience levels- some returning participants and others new to bucket drumming.

We began by introducing and reviewing the different sounds produced when the drumsticks hit various parts of the bucket, including the center, rim, and sides. Volunteers then guided the students through a variety of patterns and rhythms. Interactive activities such as the “traffic light” and “be the leader” games were incorporated, using bucket drumming as a fun way to encourage decision-making and teamwork.

To conclude the session, the volunteers led the group in drumming along to music, creating an energetic and joyful ending for everyone involved.

Volunteers (2hrs): Zoey Dou, Jiarui Cui

Parent on duty (2hrs): Carol Li (Aila)
