The SMILE Pearland October session was held at the West Pearland Library on October 11. Volunteers and participants explored the theme of landscaping, learning about trees and flowers native to the Greater Houston area. They created beautiful paintings featuring oak trees and bluebonnets—the Texas state flower—using crayons, Q-tips, and acrylic paint. The group also discovered the habitat of the Texas state bird, the mockingbird, and listened to the wide variety of sounds it can mimic. To conclude the session, everyone made origami birds to place on their paintings, completing a fun, creative, and educational activity. The session was guided by professionals from the LSA Special Needs Caring Center and a local special education teacher.
